The Game

Stick

The game people play, follow, argue about and occasionally get thrown through the air during.
Overview

What Stick is

Stick is one of Varidia’s major organised sports. Clubs belong to places, communities and traditions rather than species, and mixed-species teams are entirely ordinary.

Physical differences matter because the game does not pretend they do not. Strength, speed, size, reach and sheer bad judgement all create tactical possibilities.

Rules

01

Up to eleven

A side can field up to eleven players.

02

No species quotas

The rules do not manufacture balance by species. Teams choose who they field.

03

The goal is a portal

Get the scoring object — or a player carrying it — through the defended portal.

04

No hard reset

Play continues after a score, which can create immediate opportunities and spectacular mistakes.

05

The goalie matters

The portal is defended by a goalkeeper standing in front of it.

06

Throwing teammates counts

If launching a smaller teammate is useful, the laws of Stick are not going to protect their dignity.
